Forget getting a new TV, its all about having @NowTV #gadget #smarttv

Are you ready for a revolution? Well it’s upon us and is about to uplift your living room! As if Sky TV wasn’t revolutionary enough, we can all take a step into the future and turn our TV’s into smart TV’s with the help of NOW TV (is that enough TV’s in there for you?!)

Launched only a couple of weeks ago, this beautiful little white box (its smaller than a pub beer mat!) can help you to transform your TV watching with just your wi-fi router! Its super easy to set up (we particularly loved the mini-explanations as to why you were doing certain things in the booklet) and once you’re all logged in, there is already a plethora of channels for you to peruse!

Coming in at an affordable £9.99 if you need yet another excuse to be on Facebook or Spotify, then this is it!  As well as getting on internet specific sites such as Flickr and Vimeo, you can catch up on lots of your favourite shows via 5 Demand and iPlayer. There are also a large number of channels which you might not be too familiar with such as TED  and Crunchyroll (Japanese anime programmes). Our only word of caution on this is that some of them require specific subscriptions such as USTV Now, so you may end up forking out a bit more money than you’d originally intended, but the majority are free to view.

If you’re also not a Sky customer, what’s really handy is that you can still get Sky Movies and Sky Sports as an instant add on. For this, you would pay on a day by day basis and it isn’t the cheapest option, but these packages are essentially premium if you were a Sky customer or not; so we would recommend that you really pick a specific event that you’re willing to part your hard earned dosh for rather than making these regular occurrence.

Although the NOW TV box is still in its early stages, we can definitely see the potential for what it can offer. Not everyone can afford Sky TV or its competitors, and with all of our busy lifestyles we certainly like the idea of watching what we want, when we want. Apparently it’s a whopping 2 out of 5 people who stream their ‘must see’ shows on a regular basis, so something like the NOW TV device could be the way of the future. As with every device which is brand spanking new, we’re still waiting for what more can be offered. At first glance the variety is pleasantly surprising, so with this offering growing, we could say good bye to our old TV habits, and quite easily embrace these new ones!

Founder Nicole Phillips had an idyllic childhood growing up on a small island in the Bahamas before moving to England to complete her education. Her early experiences continue to influence her art today and many of the Nicole Phillips England designs feature themes relating to the sea and nature. The eureka moment came one evening in 2012 when Nicole realised that her artwork was ideally suited for printing on fabric and since then she has been immersed in creating and exploiting the possibilities that this medium of textiles can bring.

Nicole now runs the business with her small team in West Sussex.

All the glamour you need to become The Great Gatsby #cannes2013 #film #fashion #book

Screen Shot 2013-04-18 at 12.18.57

So the full line up of the Cannes Film Festival has been announced today, and amidst all of the excitement, we thought we’d take a quick look at the Festival’s opening film – The Great Gatsby.

Rather excitingly there have been oodles of music talents signing up to become part of the party, including Jay-Z, Lana Del Ray and Will I.AM. and to get you all in the mood of what they’re offering to the film, why not check out this cool music sampler…

In addition to this you have a stellar line up of actors including Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Joel Edgerton, Isla Fisher and Carey Mulligan. But what’s it all about?

The Story

“The Great Gatsby” follows Fitzgerald-like, would-be writer Nick Carraway as he leaves the Midwest and comes to New York City in the spring of 1922, an era of loosening morals, glittering jazz, bootleg kings, and sky-rocketing stocks.  Chasing his own American Dream, Nick lands next door to a mysterious, party-giving millionaire, Jay Gatsby, and across the bay from his cousin, Daisy, and her philandering, blue-blooded husband, Tom Buchanan.  It is thus that Nick is drawn into the captivating world of the super rich, their illusions, loves and deceits.  As Nick bears witness, within and without of the world he inhabits, he pens a tale of impossible love, incorruptible dreams and high-octane tragedy, and holds a mirror to our own modern times and struggles.

The Vision

From the uniquely imaginative mind of writer/producer/director Baz Luhrmann comes the new big screen adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel The Great Gatsby.  The filmmaker will create his own distinctive visual interpretation of the classic story, bringing the period to life in a way that has never been seen before…

The Fashion

Well, whenever there’s a period piece shown on such a scale as this, its bound to have an effect on fashion darling – so whats in store for us fashionistas?

The Make Up!

Your Gatsby look wouldn’t be complete without a make up , so its all about shimmering eyes and dark luscious lips, and we found a fab tutorial to help you achieve that amazing Daisy Buchanan inspired look:

The Parties

If you’re the queen of hosting, then why not try something a little different. We loved the idea of an elegant speakeasy dinner party:

How easy is it to create great Shabby Chic furniture? #shabbychic @autenticopaint

Screen Shot 2013-04-15 at 20.10.31

So the first hints of Summer were out this weekend and we sent one of our bloggers, Becky Perfect, to try out one of the big homeware trends over the last couple of years. Becky’s always been fascinated by the idea of shabby chic furniture restoration, mainly because with a little lick of paint they can sometimes sell for a lot of money! And with that in mind, there was just no stopping her!!

So armed with an old pine bed headboard she set out to see if a little lick of paint and a bit of sand paper really could do the trick, oh and she was kind enough to make a video about it too….

Huge thanks have to go to Autentico paint and Smile@home who gave Becky the inspiration and guidance in the first place! Much appreciated!

If you’re looking to do your own shabby chic furniture restoration then send us in your top tips and final pictures! We’d love to see how you get on!
