Friday Feature: @nailgirlslondon bring the NYC nail treatment to London living #beauty #nails #london

One of the things that the ladies of London are starting to do more and more is treat themselves to a manicure or pedicure at the weekend. It’s a great way to feel glam and a bit of pampering never goes amiss.

As it’s becoming more popular we’re seeing a lot of nail bars appear around the country and competition is fierce. So we sat down with one of the founders of nailgirls London who talked us through what makes her nail bar in Islington stand out from the rest.

The start of something big

Lynda-Louise Burrell worked as a Fashion Editor and Stylist in New York for eleven years. She really was living the Sex and the City lifestyle we all love… After a three month internship at Marc Jacobs, where she worked closely with the man himself assisting in the design of the clothes, she eventually moved on to other big names such as Lori Goldstein where she found her true passion for Styling. Way before nail bars were even a “thing” in the UK, it was already a thriving business in NYC and Lynda couldn’t do without her weekly ManiPedi (a true New Yorker!) so from one of the first salons she visited in Harlem to her beloved boutique nail bar Go-Girl in East Village this lady was hooked on nails!Screen Shot 2013-08-22 at 12.03.32

In New York Lynda found that there was a nail bar on every corner and as it became such a ritual for ladies to get their nails done on a weekly basis, these bars became a hub for socializing and meeting interesting people, and essentially something much more than just a service. If you’ve ever visited a New York nail bar, this definitely rings true… although some can be like a fast food chain, or a one in one out conveyor belt, there are others similar to Go-Girl which provide something very special, a little bit of glamour and escapism if you will. It was at that time that Lynda said to herself “ One day I’d love to open a nail bar…”

Albeit a throwaway comment at the time, it got this savvy lady thinking. In the UK there was no Nails Inc (largely seen as the pioneer brand behind nail bars in the UK) and there certainly weren’t any nail bar chains, it really wasn’t something the people of the UK were thinking of doing. So from this throwaway comment to a realization of a gap in the market nailgirls London set up shop.Screen Shot 2013-08-22 at 12.03.48

A shop was born!

When chatting to Lynda, she was very clear with what she wanted nailgirls London to portray and represent. She wanted a clean, sought after boutique shop which builds an experience for its customers. To do this she trains each of her staff to be able to talk articulately about the products and processes they are carrying out and to advise and converse with their customers to make sure they have the best experience possible.

This personalized effect has certainly added to the brands popularity, even Lynda herself struggles to get a time for a ManiPedi in her own store in Islington as its so booked up with treatments. We certainly felt that there was a fun, relaxed atmosphere upon visiting the store and its quirky pink branding screams “Girls Only!” and is a great sanctuary to get away from our busy London lives.Screen Shot 2013-08-22 at 12.04.02

The future is Nails!

As well as expanding her salon into more than just nails, and providing additional beauty treatments such as threading at affordable prices, Lynda knew that there was great opportunity to put her fashion knowledge and experience to the test and create her own line of nail colours.

“What we also wanted, was a directional and wearable colour collection for the nails that was on trend with catwalk collections. A range composed of both the very latest fashion shades and classic colours, in shades to suit all skin tones.” So came the nailgirls spa and nailgirlsLondon brand.Screen Shot 2013-08-22 at 11.55.36

nailgirls London is THE authority on nail care and colour, launching a new limited edition catwalk colour collection to match the fashion catwalk collections each season.  This Spring/Summer season for instance is all about classic pastel tones.
The catwalks were a clatter with these playful hues perfect for beach holidays and summer city breaks. The colours are non-toxic, 4 free from (formaldehyde, toluene, dbp & camphor), long lasting, high gloss, nail strengthening, low odour fashion nail polish colours and cost only £10.50 each.Screen Shot 2013-08-22 at 12.04.58

So remember, you’re never too busy to treat yourself, and whether it be to a new polish or to an affordable ManiPedi, in our opinion nailgirls London is the place to go. The staff are lovely, you’re taken care of like a pro, and most importantly you come out of it feeling like a million bucks! So why not give it ago… you can find nail girls London in Islington, so why not book your appointment at www.nailgirlslondon.com or call 020 7359 2772.

Last week the Snoochie Boochies team headed over to the Spirit of Summer exhibition at Olympia to find out what would be on offer to make you and your home fabulous and ready for Summer!

We found some fantastic British designers covering all different areas from furniture to food and make up to accessories. Its well worth a visit when it comes around again, but first and foremost, we wanted to release a few posts over the coming weeks from some of the exhibitors we felt stood out at the show.

First up is Nicole Phillips England.

These gadgets may just change your life #tech #consumertech @firebox

Now where would we be without our iphone? Probably lost somewhere without the help of Google Maps that’s for sure. Well, it wasn’t too long ago that we all had black and white screens on our phones and the idea of an app was in a galaxy far, far away. How far along have we come?! Its quite scary. We here at Snoochie Boochies, love looking to the future, and when it comes to gadgets, wondering what crazy invention the world will be wearing/using next is super exciting.

So, we thought we’d highlight a couple of gadgets which may look bizarre now, but might just be an essential item in a few short years to come! Oh and we have to say a huge thank you to the awesome and cool Firebox.com that provided us with the inspiration for these pieces (and some of the descriptions!) You can find all of these gadgets on the Firebox website!

1) Bluetooth Gloves

Anyone seen the Total Recall remake with Colin Farrell? Well in that film he has an inbuilt phone in his hand. We’re not quite there yet, but withScreen Shot 2013-05-02 at 09.17.40 this “handy” (sorry) gadget you can almost certainly think you look as cool as him.

The name Bluetooth Gloves doesn’t give much away. ‘Sure’ you might be thinking, ‘they’re gloves that work with a touchscreen, that’s cool’. But prepare yourselves, because we’re through the looking glass here, people.

Not only are these gloves comfy and warm (and totally touch-screen friendly), but they will wirelessly synch with your smartphone, turning your hand into a phone… that’s right. Just pull them on, press the ‘answer’ button and make the classic ‘phone hand’ shape. Now you’re talking.

Utilising an integrated microphone and speaker in the tips of the thumb and little finger, and a control pad on the top, you can communicate without taking your phone out of your pocket.

It’s not quite hands-free, but it still makes answering the phone supremely simple, plus you get to look like you’re having an imaginary conversation.

Talk to the hand.

2) Wine Handbag

Screen Shot 2013-05-02 at 09.25.41Yes that box of wine that you remember lugging from one student party to another has come back into fashion…literally. Never be the one who forgot to ‘bring a bottle’ with this handy contraption, and if you’re a fashionista its the (ahem) latest in hi-tech fashion…is it a bag, is it a bottle? No its a wine handbag!

Whether you’re gossiping with the girls during a Sex and the City style night-in, or digging your high-heels out of the mud after a debaucherous delightful day at the races; you’ll always be sipping in style.

With it’s distinctly designer-style, the bag looks like it’s come straight off the catwalk. But rest assured that the wine inside is sourced from the finest French wineries (likely located on some preposterously picturesque estate) and more than matches this high-end Wine Handbag.

Whether Red, White or sparkling Rosé, everyone knows that the finest wine comes in a bag.

3) Smartskin iPad Condoms

Well… we did pay a lot of money for our iPad…why not erm, protect it?! Screen Shot 2013-05-02 at 09.31.01

You never know when you’ll get lucky… enough to take your iPad to the beach, or on a boat, or cycling in the rain, or driving a rally car, or riding a camel in the desert.

But thanks to the sleek and stretchy Condoms for iPad, you’ll never have to say no to an unexpected bit of iPad excitement again.

Keep them in your wallet for that special situation or emergency occasion, and know that your iPad has protection at a moment’s notice.

NB: iPad and Good Times not included!

So there you go, and remember folks this is only the tip of the iceberg. So if you want to be ahead of the game, make sure you head straight to Firefox and get yourself one of the futures must haves 🙂

Happy Shopping!
